St. Peregrine Novena and Prayers for Miraculous Healing
Published April 29, 2022
For people suffering from a terminal illness, St. Peregrine is more than just a beacon of hope. He is also an inspiration.
Born in 14th century Italy, St. Peregrine is now considered the Patron Saint of cancer, AIDS, and other incurable diseases. But in certain circles, he is also known as the rebel who became a saint.
St. Peregrine lived at a time when there was growing discontent with the papal rule in his hometown. To try and reconcile the divided community, the pope sent Philip Benizi of the Order of the Servites.
When Benizi arrived in town, he was beaten and hurled insults. Since his family was one of the most affluent supporters of the anti-papal faction, the then 18-year-old Peregrine was there too. He even heckled and struck Benizi. But upon realizing what he’s done, Peregrine immediately repented and asked Benizi for forgiveness to which the priest responded with kindness.
That moment left a profound effect on the young Peregrine. He eventually became a champion for Benizi and upon his suggestion, began to spend his days in prayer and service to the poor.
One day, while praying, he had a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary holding a black habit and telling him to go to Siena and join the order of Servites. And so he did.
After he was ordained a priest, he went back to his hometown in Forli and found a Servite monastery. Because of his service to the poor and the afflicted, the people took to calling him the “Angel of Good Counsel”.
When he was about 60 years old, a cancerous growth appeared on his right foot. It developed into an infection and caused him severe pain. It became so severe that he finally agreed to have a surgeon amputate it.
But then the night before his surgery, he had a vision of Jesus coming down from the cross and touching the ulcerous growth on his leg. When the doctor came to perform the surgery the next day, they discovered that his leg has completely healed.
Stories of this miraculous healing spread like wildfire throughout the town and deepened the people’s regard for him. When they were sick, they came to him for intercession in his prayers and some of them were miraculously healed. He went on to live for over two more decades and died of fever in May 1345 at the age of 85.
In 1609, he was declared blessed by Pope Paul V. Pope Benedict XIII finally canonized him in 1726. We now celebrate his feast day every 1st of May.
If you or someone you know is currently suffering from an incurable illness, here are some St. Peregrine novena and prayers for miraculous healing:

Prayer to St. Peregrine for Healing in All Affliction
O great St. Peregrine, you have been called “The Mighty,” “The Wonder-Worker,” because of the numerous miracles which you have obtained from God for those who have had recourse to you.
For so many years you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys the very fiber of being until you took recourse to the source of all grace when the power of man could do no more.
You were favored with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction. We beseech you to ask of God and Our Lady, the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you.
(Mention your intentions)
Aided in this way by your powerful intercession, we shall sing to God, now and for all eternity, a song of gratitude for His great goodness and mercy.
(Recite Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be)
Prayer for Grace in Suffering
Glorious wonder-worker, St. Peregrine, you answered the divine call with a ready spirit, and forsook all the comforts of a life of ease and all the empty honors of the world to dedicate yourself to God in the Order of His holy Mother.
You labored manfully for the salvation of souls. In union with Jesus crucified, you endured painful sufferings with such patience as to deserve to be healed miraculously of an incurable cancer in your leg by a touch of His divine hand.
Obtain for me the grace to answer every call of God and to fulfill His will in all the events of life. Enkindle in my heart a consuming zeal for the salvation of all men.
Deliver me from the infirmities that afflict my body especially…
(mention
