40 Comforting Bible Verses for the Weary and Heavy-Laden
Published June 10, 2022
If you are feeling anxious, weary, and downtrodden these days, know that you are not alone. After all, life is not all sunshine and rainbows. There are the occasional droughts and storms too.
Even the Bible has its fair share of suffering characters and stories of weariness. From Noah who had to endure 40 days of flooding to the apostles who were persecuted for their faith, all of them probably had moments where they just want to give up.
But can you imagine life without these trials and difficulties? Would it still be worth living?
Probably not. You see, if life is easy, we wouldn’t be able to know God. We won’t be able to appreciate His blessings nor marvel in His grace. We won’t have something to fight for or happy days to look forward to. In short, life would be empty and meaningless.
So if you’re having a hard time right now, consider it an opportunity to know God better. Because His is the only love that’s steadfast and never changing. He is our safe place. The whole world may hate us but He would never desert us. When we’re weary and exhausted, in Him we will find refuge.
To cheer you up in these difficult times, here are some comforting Bible verses for the weary and emotionally drained:
- Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. – Matthew 11:28-30

- Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left; through glory and dishonor, bad report and good report; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything. – 2 Corinthians 6:4-10

- No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. – 1 Corinthians 10:13
