How A Christian Husband Should Love His Wife
Published August 8th, 2019
A secret to a healthy marriage is putting God as the center of your relationship. It can be a lot of work, but it will keep you strong during rough times.
As a Christian, following God’s word is one step in keeping the marriage strong and lasting.
In the Bible, it was said :
A Christian husband should love his wife as he does himself and always protect her from all harm. (Eph. 5:25–29)
The Bible doesn’t allow a Christian husband to just treat his wife in any way he wants to.
Here are 5 ways on how a Christian husband should love his wife according to the word of the Lord.
Love Your Wife
To fulfill God’s word, husbands should do his best to nurture, cherish, and love his wife as he would with his own flesh.
After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church(Eph. 5:29)
Not only because you are married to her, but it was also written in the Bible:
Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them (Col. 3:19)
Aside from God, you are to treat your wife as the most important person in your life.
In fact, the bible says you have to love your wife the same way you love your own body.
This could only mean that throughout your marriage, you need to pay attention to her. Hear what she says, see what she does, and accept everything about her.

Respect Your Wife
In the bible, Paul wrote:
Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. (Eph. 5:24)
But Paul doesn’t mean that your wife should let you abuse, neglect, or disrespect her.
What Paul is teaching the Christians, is that the husband leads the wife. Not abusing or mistreating the wife.
For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. (Eph. 5:23)
In fact, Peter also said that a Christian husband should always honor his wife, protect her dignity, and must not destroy his wife’s reputation:
Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.(1 Pet. 3:7).
Work With Your Wife as a Team
For a marriage to be healthy and successful, both husband and wife should work as a team.
Marriage is a bond with two people. In that case, the husband and wife are lives that are tied together. Therefore, a husband should treat his wife as a companion and a teammate.
In Genesis 2:18, the Bible says that a man should not be alone and needs a “suitable helper.” That’s when God created Eve because Adam needed her.
Be Devoted to Your Wife
In marriage, rough times are inevitable. Christ will sometimes test you. Whether due to financial, emotional, physical, or any challenges, a Christian husband should always be faithful to his wife.
A Christian husband should always prioritize her wife’s happiness above all.
In doing so, not only he honors his wife but also the Lord.
as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her (Eph. 5:25;)
A Christian husband should also devote himself to his wife for the rest of his life.
In loving your wife in a Christian way, your goal as a husband is that separation is not an option.
Whatever difficulties that both of you will face, your bond should be strong and nothing should break it.
What God has joined together, let no one separate. (Mark 10:9)
Have an Intimate Sexual Relationship
One’s body has physical needs. So, it’s important not to disregard your wife, and fulfill your wife’s needs on a physical level.
Through intimacy, both husband and wife increase the connection to each other. It also helps to strengthen the emotional and spiritual bond of one’s marriage.
In the Bible, Paul also wrote:
The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. (1 Corinthians 7:3)
Do not deprive each other of sexual relations, unless you both agree to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time so you can give yourselves more completely to prayer. Afterward, you should come together again so that Satan won’t be able to tempt you because of your lack of self-control. (1 Corinthians 7:5)
Loving your wife as to how a Christian husband should be is indeed a lot of work, but doing so, will be beneficial for you. Not only you are doing God’s word, but you are also doing your role as a husband to keep your marriage blessed.
