30+ Most Popular Bible Verses From the Gospel of John
Published May 13, 2022
If I were to describe the Gospel of John, I’d say that it’s more than just the story of Jesus. It’s the story of the Son of God.
Let me explain.
In the other three gospels, Jesus is portrayed as the King, the Servant, and the Son of Man. But the Gospel of John portrays Him as the Son of God. This is evident in how the author chose to start his book.
Unlike Luke and Matthew, John skipped the nativity story. Instead, he started his book by relating Jesus to the Messiah who was prophesied in the old scriptures. And this would become his core message all throughout the book.
In all twenty-one chapters of the book, we can also see the author’s admiration for Jesus. Though he was writing in hindsight, he managed to convey Jesus’ words as if we are there in front of him when he spoke them. By citing Jesus’ seven “I am” statements, John gave us a side of Jesus that wasn’t portrayed in the other three gospels: that of a God-man, human yet divine.
Because of this, the John verses in the Bible have become some of the most quoted gospel verses today. Here are the most popular verses from the Gospel of John:
- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. – John 1:1
- Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. – John 1:3
- Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God – children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. – John 1:12-13
- The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. – John 1:14
- For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16
- Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. – John 14:27
- I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5
- The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. – John 1:9-11
- If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. – John 15:18
- Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. – John 6:25

- The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” – John 3:8
- I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. – John 6:51
- Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God. – John 3:20-21
- Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them. – John 3:36
- Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. – John 6:54-56

- Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
