In recognition, the Cistercians welcomed these lay communities, now Lay Cistercians, into their spiritual family.

Welcomed by the Abbots of their Cistercian monasteries, Lay Cistercian communities have grown worldwide. This led them to unite and form the International Association of Lay Cistercian Communities.
